#1: “Grizzly Bear – Will Calls (Marfa Demo)”

Grizzly Bear - Shields B-sides

The first episode! Stitch Tapes is a music podcast with a simple idea: a group of friends come together and assemble a playlist based on a theme. This theme could be an abstract idea, or a specific song. This week we’ve decided to make a playlist based on Grizzly Bear’s “Will Calls,” a song from their Shields: B-Sides EP. It’s a song that makes for a rich topic of discussion, filled with lyrical ambiguity and textural complexity. Our selections were drawn from a variety of styles, a reflection of the song’s unique construction.. We were kinda just winging it this time around, and as a result the episode ran a little long (about 2.5 hours). Hopefully you can bear with us while we work out the show’s format (not to mention the website, which is still pretty rough around the edges at this point). Look out for episode 2, a mixtape based on “Penelope” by Pinback!
